What can you do during your stay at camping L’Orée des Vosges, in the surroundings of Val-d’Ajol?

In the area surrounding the L’Orée des Vosges campsite and Val-d’Ajol, we invite you to discover a unique region combining nature and forests, mountains, heritage and local crafts. So, are you ready to follow the guide?

Village of Val d'Ajol

This charming village has a rich historical past, the legacy of which is evident today in its gastronomic heritage in particular. Le Val d’Ajol is classified as a Site Remarquable du Goût (Remarkable Site of Taste) and is keen to preserve its traditional dishes. Among these, you cannot miss the local andouille sausage. This is celebrated at a fair held every year on the third Monday in February, which has been running since 1831, bringing together various suppliers in a rural and festive atmosphere. You will undoubtedly have the opportunity to taste it in one of the typical restaurants of Le Val d’Ajol or by stopping at the small producers’ shops. Today, this village shines through its craftsmanship. Rich in cultural heritage, no fewer than 145 crosses have been recorded, three of which are classified as Historic Monuments. During your walk, you will see the church with its listed objects (altarpiece, pietà, crucifix, pulpit), the Priory of Hérival (a former monastery), the chalots (farm outbuildings typical of the Vosges Saônoises) and the lava roofs typical of the region. Le Val d’Ajol is also a key stopover and access point for more than 150 kilometres of hiking trails in the surrounding area. The village is particularly lively in July, when it hosts the ‘Le Pied Orange’ festival: three days of festivities featuring concerts, street entertainment and a farmers’ and craft market.

Faymont Waterfall and hiking trail

Six kilometres from the campsite, enjoy a magnificent hiking trail that invites you to discover and admire this waterfall in the heart of the forest. This route offers a three-hour hike (9 kilometres) between Val d’Ajol and Plombières-les-Bains, for a real break in nature. This trail is suitable for all levels.

Géhard Waterfall

By extending your route (10 km from the campsite), another natural wonder awaits you. The Géhard waterfall originates at Moulin Picard and can be seen from several marked hiking trails.

Drague Pond

For fishing and nature enthusiasts, head to the Etang de la Drague. This lake was once a quarry (dug in the 20th century) for the needs of a textile factory, now converted into a paradise for anglers.

Stations thermales

For our spa holidaymakers, a whole range of treatments are available in the vicinity of the campsite: there are many spa towns to discover. These include the Plombières-les-Bains thermal baths 10 km away, the Luxeuil-les-Bains thermal baths 20 km away, and the Bains-les-Bains thermal baths 30 km away. For a rejuvenating holiday!

Tee’Voli Park

For sports enthusiasts, the Tee’Voli Park in Plombières-les-Bains (12 minutes from the campsite by car) offers numerous golf courses and various outdoor activities that will delight young and old alike: Football Golf Course (9 holes), Forest Croquet, Land Art and Treasure Hunt. Picnic area and outdoor chess set.

Tree climbing at the Jardins en Terrasses

These unique gardens are one of the must-see sites in the Southern Vosges. Combining relaxation and discovery, this lively place is full of activities for enjoying a pleasant outdoor outing. Among the activities on offer, try the Accro Terrasses (in Plombières-les-Bains): two tree-top adventure courses that allow you to walk through lush green surroundings and climb high enough to admire the beautiful panoramic views of the Vosges! Suitable for all levels, enjoy it with family or friends.

Did you love your stay in the heart of the Vosges but didn’t have time to see everything? Don’t worry! We suggest you continue your journey towards Alsace and the Wine Route, and set up camp at the L’Orée d’Alsace campsite (2½ hours’ drive from the campsite). This small campsite in Wasselonne in the Bas-Rhin (30 minutes from Strasbourg) invites you to enjoy a relaxing break on a camping pitch or in fully equipped or canvas accommodation, perfect for a family holiday. It’s also the ideal spot for exploring Alsace and hiking among the vineyards… not to mention sampling the local cuisine (we promise, it’s worth the detour!). So, are you ready to hit the road again? Let’s go!
